Norman Bronze Buckle Plate depicting warrior horseman wielding sword.
Battle of Hastings era 1066-1200 AD
Norman artefacts refer to objects and items produced or used during the Norman period, which generally spans from the late 10th Century to the late 12th Century. The Normans were a medieval ethnic group originating from Scandinavia and Northern France who played a significant role in European history, particularly in England, Normandy and Southern Italy.
Norman horsemen were bound by feudal ties of loyalty and allegiance to their Lords who granted them land, titles and privileges in exchange for military service and loyalty. This feudal system formed the basis of medieval society and provided the framework for Norman governance and military organisation.
