Description
Chinese Girl by Vladimir Tretchikoff, (1913-2006) popularly known as The Green Lady is one of the best selling and sought after prints of the 20th Century. Tretchikoff was born in Siberia, emigrated to China and after moving to Singapore became a propaganda artist for British Intelligence and was imprisoned in Java. He eventually settled in South Africa where he died in 2006.
His model for this renowned painting was Monika Sing-Lee (later Pon-su-san) who he found working in a local Chinese laundry.
Tretchikoff was so successful that he was considered to be the richest artist of his era next to Picasso.
The item is in very good condition, in its original 1950's/ 60's frame and ready to hang.
