Description
A rare and highly original English Victorian shop fitting come chest of drawers.
A very large mahogany chest of drawers. The haberdashery cabinet measures 321cm wide, 83cm high and 57cm deep. The single mahogany top in original finish, with 2 inset brass yardstick rulers sitting atop an array of deep drawers.
There are 2 small drawers flanking 3 long drawers on the top section, all with original turned handles, above 3 large deep drawers below. The mahogany drawers have developed an excellent rich colour over it's life and are in incredible condition for their age.
It is a very elegant piece and made with such expensive materials, it would have graced a very fine business. Considering this was a working shop fitters chest, it's condition is incredible. It's history is unknown
Condition Report:
Quite unbelievable condition for its age. One handle has a small piece missing from the underside, one handle has been replaced with a period replacement.
Each of the drawers has its original blue paper lining, albeit now very worn. I have left this in for its originality, but it could be very easily removed if preferred.
