Hand Knotted Persian Karabagh Rug early 1910

One of my personal favourites, the Herati garden trellis pattern, can be found in various regions of Persian rugs, and its colour palette is truly captivating. The combination of cochineal red, soft green, pistachio, and almond tones create a visually striking rug that exudes decorative charm. As the rug ages, some of the petals showcase the transformation of the early fuchsine dye, which has oxidized into a delicate Gray reminiscent of onion skin.
While the Herati design is occasionally described as representing lovers striving to reunite through gates, I prefer to focus on the mesmerizing interplay of flora and fauna as they gracefully weave their way across the rug's surface. The Karabagh border, reminiscent of intricately carved stone, enhances the rug's three-dimensional effect and adds an extra touch of elegance.
