A matching pair of 19th century heavy gilt bronze tazza from the Victorian Grand Tour of Europe. Each dish is moulded to the underside in the form of three scallop shells decorated above with three scenes of reclining maidens framed with three mythical horned beasts with snakes. Each is raised on a spreading reeded pedestal adorned with three satyr masks supported on a circular foot. The gilded bronze is in good condition with a pleasing patina. There is significance in the number three being shown over and over in the decoration. These are beautiful and interesting well crafted items that appear to reveal more at each inspection, a real conversation piece.
