South West Persian Gabbeh Rug- Early tile design and natural tones

Early Lori rugs featured a loose and floppy weave, showcasing impressive, large bold designs. Contemporary design Southwestern Persian Gabbeh rugs draw inspiration from these early Lori rugs, adopting their striking design and colour style, although with a different solid weave.
During the mid-century, both Lori and Gabbeh rugs maintained their floppy weave but shifted towards using only natural sheep tones for a more organic and earthy feel. The Lori rugs from this period exhibited an all-over tile format adorned with stylized flowers that repeated throughout the design. These flowers were accompanied by simple border patterns featuring stars, which were often interpreted as symbols of happiness and prosperity.
